Scarefest Adds CyberCon to 2020 Calendar: August 29

It's been a rough year for conventions. What else can we say?

Fandom convention after fandom convention have had to cancel their 2020 shows. Some have taken a chance on moving their dates to late summer or fall, others have written the year off entirely and started planning for 2021.

We thought that our own scheduling shift for 2020 due to the renovations at Lexington's Convention Center would give us some insulation from the ongoing pandemic and its accompanying restrictions on events and crowds. We were only recently given even rough guidelines as to how to move forward with planning our 2020 event.

These restrictions are going to force us to make some difficult decisions, and while we can go forward with the convention at this time, Scarefest 2020 is going to look very different from what our thousands of fans have grown to expect.

We cannot thank our fans enough for their patience and support during these past several months. We wanted to do something to show our appreciation in at least a small way while filling the gap in fandom's live's brought on by the isolation that this year has wrought.

We are excited to announce that on August 29th, 2020 we are going to launch our first (in what we expect to be an ongoing series of) virtual convention: Scarefest Cybercon.

The seeds for this idea were planted back in April when Scarefest Television spoke to Dirk Strangely about his upcoming QuarantinedCon. Dirk had already been laying the infrastructure to create a more responsive and complete system to simulcast conventions. When the pandemic lock-down hit he shifted his focus to adapting that work to creating a virtual convention platform.

At the time we were more interested in streaming our October event live. We knew that even without government health restrictions that many people would not be willing to travel to Lexington and participate. Recently The Scarefest decided to apply the platform to a completely virtual event that melded the newly developing technologies with our own unique and fan friendly way of bringing people together.

CyberCon was born. We have seen countless other conventions, both small and large, attempt this in the meantime. Some did it better than others. A few actually tried to create an online convention. Most just streamed a bunch of stuff via Facebook and called it a convention. We are not aware of any that met with rave reviews.

If we are going to do it, we are going to make every attempt to do it right! Details will be forthcoming but you can expect celebrities offering autographs, speakers offering seminars, and vendors offering unique items for purchase. Unlike the attempts by others we expect to offer a continuous stream of activities throughout the day with online Staph Members standing by to help you find exactly what you are looking for.

We will be posting the details as they become available here on our website, on our Scarefest Facebook Page and our Scarefest Fan Group and of course we encourage you to watch Scarefest Television every Friday night at 9PM for the latest news.
